Martin was born on May 9, 1972, in Manchester, England, but moved with his family to Norley, rural Cheshire, when he was still a child. Other than being a famous journalist, he also was the founder of the website MoneySavingExpert.com. Martin, however, really focused on journalism for most of his life. After graduating from Cardiff University, he became a producer for the BBC Business Unit. He also worked as an editor for BBC Radio and helped in the Sunday Express’s column, Deal of the Week.

Martin showed interest in journalism at an early age, attending The Kings School in Chester. He then attended the London School of Economics, studying Government and Law. Soon after, he received an honorary doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Chester. His investment in his career as a journalist gave him the push he needs to be successful in his field. His dedication to his work gave him the reputation of a trustworthy journalist.
