Catherine Bell was raised by her mother and grandparents in San Fernando Valley, California. During her formative years, she was exposed to a diverse cultural upbringing. Her grandparents were practicing Muslims while she was also exposed to Catholicism and Baptists in summer camps. Catherine studied at UCLA, initially for a degree in medicine, but would later drop out for a modeling career opportunity in Japan.

Upon returning to the US, Catherine embarked on her acting career. One of her first appearances was when she starred alongside Dolph Lundgren in the movie Men of War. She would later gain popularity for her portrayal of the fictional character, Colonel Sarah Mckinzie in the TV series JAG. She then followed it up with another successful series, Army Wives, where she portrayed the fictional character, Denise Sherwood. Afterward, she would land a role in a would-be long-lasting franchise, Hallmark’s The Good Witch. Its commercial success would spawn numerous sequels to its name.
