Phoebe Cates
Phoebe Cates made a name in the 1980s when she appeared in the movies Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Gremlins. Before becoming an actress, Cates had a short modeling career, but she withdrew from the industry because she was bored with repetitive work. In 1994, the 56-year-old star decided to retire from acting and focus her attention to raise her two kids, Owen and Greta, instead.
But in 2001, she returned in the spotlight to do the movie The Anniversary Party for her best friend and former castmate Jennifer Jason Leigh. In 2005, she made a significant investment in a boutique that she opened on Madison Avenue, called Blue Tree. It looked like she couldn’t entirely turn her back from the career that she loved as she once again returned in 2015 to voice her character, Kate Beringer, in the video game Lego Dimensions.
